The tiger is a beautiful creature,which plays an important role in keeping the ecosystem well balanced.but in 1970 their population were down sharply.This had become a matter of concern for the entire world .According to the Indian Task Force(1972) setup by the Government of India,the total estimated population of tigers in India, at that time was 1827.More then 70% of the world's tiger population is found in India. In order to avoid extinction of tiger and increase their population, the programme for conservation of tiger launched in India during 1972-73.The Prime Minister Mrs. Indera Gandhi shows her personal interest on this matter and banned the Tiger hunting in India by July 1970. In 1972 wildlife Protection Act drawn up which prohibited all types of hunting by Law. It was 1st April 1973 when India's first tiger project was launched by Union Minister Dr. Karan Singh at Dhikala forest range of Jim Corbett National Park in Uttarakhand. It is India's first and oldest tiger reserve.It was established in the year 1936. Nagarjun sagar-srisailam is the largest tiger reserve of India,which is located at guntur,Parkasam,mahbubhangar,Nalgana districts in the state of Andhra Pardesh Telangana.It was founded in 1983 , Its total area is about 3728 k.m².
